PaperGate is a 16 bit windows application and it runs on any Windows Platform i.e. Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, Win NT and Windows 98.

ProFile is a 32 bit windows
application and it runs on Windows 95, Win NT and Windows 98. It doesn't run on Windows 3.x
What databases work with PaperGate ?
For standalone application, you have the option of either having "Raima" database or Centura ( formerly Gupta ) SQLBase database. For network mode, we just sell Centura. Raima is free while Centura is not but it is more reliable.
What databases work with ProFile ?
ProFile is ODBC compliant. Therefore any ODBC compliant database should work with
Profile. The recommended database is Centura.
Will ProFile be able to read PaperGate databases ?
ProFile is designed to read existing PaperGate Centura ( Gupta ) databases ( not RAIMA ). However, it is not possible to add documents to those databases. For new documents, you have to start with new database in ProFile.

No, the isis drivers available from pixel translations for NT workstation are only 32 bit while PaperGate uses 16 bit isis toolkit. Therefore , the scan station can’t be Windows NT but it can be Windows 95 as the

Centura ( formerly Gupta ) Database SQLBase 6.1.2 doesn’t work properly on Novell Netware 4.11 ?
There is a patch available for that from Centura Software. Check their web site http://www.centurasoft.com
I am using SQLBase 6.1.0 with PaperGate. When I do a search in PaperGate, it doesn’t give all the records ?
This was a problem with SQLBase 6.1.0 which was fixed by Centura Software in SQLBase 6.1.2. Contact Centura Software for upgrade.
How do I export data in database to a text file ?
Use the option : File / Database / Export and choose CSV ( Comma Separated Value ) format. This file can be read in Microsoft Excel.
When I take a backup of database using PaperGate, it gives me an error message ?
Make sure that directory name exist and there is no existing backup of the database in that directory.
Does PaperGate work on WAN ( Wide Area Network ) ?
Yes, It has been successfully tested using TCP/IP protocol.
I am using MARVIN ( also called DocuMaster ) and want to upgrade to PaperGate.

I can’t open a database from PaperGate Gupta ?
The settings in your "sql.ini" are not correct. On NT server, make sure that only TCP/IP is running. Also, there should be no "password" on the server. Try clicking on "Scan for Databases" on the server. It is al
so possible that you didn't install the correct files while installing Gupta Database. While installing PG Gupta Client, make sure that you check "win 3.x" even if you are installing it on a Windows 95 machine. Check whether you can connect using "SQLTalk

When I try to read an image, I get an error : "Unable to start reading page from disk", " File Read Fail".
It probably means that "paths are defined" local. Go to File/ Database/ Paths / Alt + M and make paths as shared paths. The paths which are defined "local" start with "#".
I can't read barcodes on a page.
It could be because their quality is poor. Try scanning them at higher dpi and and let us know the results.
How do I convert images from one image format to another ?
PaperGate has the option of exporting the images to a particular format and then you can import them.
How many documents can be put in database ?
PaperGate Gupta database can handle approximately 2000 million documents in one database.
How many jukebox platters can be handled by PaperGate ?
This limit was 64 in PaperGate
6.1 which is increased to 2048 in PaperGate 6.2.
I can't scan using Adaptec 1540 Scsi card using Windows for Workgroups using Canon DR 3020 drivers.
This SCSI card uses 32 bit drivers which is incompatible with Windows for Workgroups.
What is the latest version available for Canon DR 3020 drivers ?
The file used is "C:\windows\pixtran\canon_dr.pxw". Check the version of this file. The latest version is 1.19 available either from ImageTech or Pixel Translations ( http

Can I open the same database from PG View Only Station alongwith PG full access station.
If you are using PaperGate Gupta, you can do it. If you are using PaperGate Raima, u need to make a copy of database for View Only station.
I want to read the same database from all the workstations without having to reconfigure "pg.cfg" on every workstation.
Put the "pg.cfg" file on the server and point the path in "pg.ini" on every workstation so that if a new database is created by one machine , all other machines should be able to access it.
How do I make sure that my gupta database is not corrupt ?
Start SQLTalk 16 bit. Goto Session/ Connect / dbname. Click on close button. In the upperwindow type "check database; <Ctrl + enter>
I was using my database on a Novell Server. I transferred it to a Windows NT Server and I can't connect to my database.
Start SQLTalk 16 bit. In the upperwindow type :
SET SERVER SERVER1; <ctrl + enter>
INSTALL DATABASE <dbname>; <ctrl + enter >
ROLLFORWARD; <ctrl + enter >
ROLLFORWARD; <ctrl + enter >
ROLLFORWARD END; <ctrl + enter >
Now you should be able to connect.
I can't login into my Gupta database after converting it from Raima.
The security in Raima is no longer valid in Gupta. The best way is to login as "sysadm" in PaperGate Gupta database.
The database size become 20 MB to 400 MB while I convert from Raima to Gupta.
You have to reorganize the gupta database. Start SQLTalk 16 bit. Goto Session/ Connect / dbname. Click on close button. In the upper window type "reorganize; <Ctrl + enter>". After reorganizing , the size w
ill be reduced to almost 40 MB.
After converting from Raima to Gupta, I get the error "Smart heap library".
Do File / Database / Maintenance / Update Statistics.
I get the following when I press the DL button : "Application Programming error : Too many binds"
This was a bug in PaperGate 6.1 which has been fixed in PaperGate 6.2. The PaperGate 6.2 is free for customers who have valid "Support Agreement" with ImageTech.
Centura Database has a 16 bit engine and a 32 bit engine. Which engine I should use ?
For single users, where database as well as PaperGate is running on the same machine, you should use 16 bit engine. For all network configurations, you should use 32 bit engine.
What is PG Server ? How do I run it ?
PG Server keep track of documents to make sure that they are not changed by more than one user at the same time. PaperGate uses "netbios" protocol to communicate with PG Server. This make sure that two people can
't resolve the same batch at the same time. To run PG Server , double click on "pgs.exe" and put the following enteries in "c:\windows\pg.ini"

How do I recover a lost path ?
You should never delete a path. If you delete it, all your documents in that path are lost to PaperGate.
I have a empty batch with no images in it. How do I delete it ?
The only way to delete this type of batch is to do an "Advanced Search", find the batch and hit "Delete" button.
I expect more than 8000 records while doing a search but PaperGate Search get aborted after 8000.
Yes, the limit is 8000 if you doing a search but it can be increased by writing a REXX Macro.
I am scanning some images using some other application but when I import them into PaperGate, it doesn't display the image correctly.
It is possible that other application is not putting the correct DPI information in the image. However in PaperGate 6.2, there is an option to display the image at a default DPI of 300.
When I copy the database from a CD to my hard drive, I can't open it.
Remove the "Read Only" attribute of the file after copying it.
I want to replace my old scanner with a new one for isis drivers.
Just delete the file "C:\windows\setscan.ini" and start PaperGate again. It will ask you to choose a scanner.
